Intuitive Landscapes
“Seek out a tree and let it teach you stillness.” -Eckhart Tolle
Whenever I find myself troubled and disheartened, I know I can always look to nature to settle my mind and ground me into the present moment. By observing and appreciating the natural world, we are given the opportunity to experience the deepest part of ourselves. Nature offers her healing presence to soothe our hearts and remind us how to just be.
These landscape paintings are a small tribute of gratitude to the natural world for showing us the way back to our calm center.
May these pieces remind you to be still and enjoy the quiet wisdom of nature.

Turquoise skies
I love that buttery late afternoon time of day before the sun sets. The world looks lit from within and everything takes on a hazy, soft, yellowish color. But then the sun goes down and it begins to get dark. With so many artists capturing the beauty of sunsets I sometimes feel the quiet dignity of just before dusk is overlooked
This painting is inspired but the gentle quiet of that space after sunset and before dusk. When it’s too early to see even the first sprinkling of stars. It’s the time when the very first shadows are the crickets and cicadas cue to begin their songs.

Light of the sea
“You are not a drop in the ocean. You are the entire ocean in a drop.” ~Rumi
I try to never take for granted how special it is to live near the coast. I’m just a short drive from the ocean and often spend afternoons on the beach with my family and our frisky dog who loves jumping in the waves.
For me, just sitting by the ocean is like spending hours in meditation. My mind becomes instantly clear and the sounds of the waves immediately roots me into the present moment.
This small oil on canvas is my tribute to the calming and healing light of truth the ocean offers us.

Superbloom
Nature always wears the colors of the spirit. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
I vividly remember the bright and happy California poppies my mom planted all along our backyard that bloomed lush and full every spring. Now I can’t walk past a wildflower without thinking of my mom and the almost t mystical way she can grow a garden anywhere, in any climate.
This painting was inspired by the spirit of my mother. Her joy, love humor, presence, creativity and zest for life are as beautiful and as untamed as the California super blooms. She inspires me each and every day.

“The only Zen you find at the top of the mountain is the Zen you bring with you.” -Zen Proverb
I’ve always been drawn to the poetic teachings of Taoism, Sufism and Zen Proverbs. These teachings were written long ago but offer a timeless wisdom that really resonate with me.
This little mountain scape acrylic on canvas was inspired by these poetic and simple teachings.
The Hills Before Sunset
The Hills Before Sunset
30” x 30”

As I walk along the hills of the small town in which I live I admire the oak tree adorned hills (vibrant green in spring, dry, dusty and golden in summer) and feel grateful for every simple sunset.
This piece is inspired by one of the many sunsets over the rolling hills that I have the privilege of enjoying. The gift of a sunset it for everyone, no matter where you live.

Salinas in winter

What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness.”
~John Steinbeck
Acrylic & oil pastel on canvas
My family often makes the drive up the 101 from the Central Coast to the Bay Area to visit family. As we pass through the Salinas valley I can’t help but admire the stark and barren beauty of what’s known as “the salad bowl of the world.” Salinas is famous for its agriculture and is the setting for many of John Steinbeck’s novels including my all time favorite, 𝘌𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘌𝘥𝘦𝘯.
This intuitive landscape was inspired by many drives through the barren winter landscape of the Salinas valley. While barren then, one can sense the promise of the abundance of produce and vegetation come spring.
